The 6th of March 2009, was a great day!
Finally we, the software craftsmanship community, finalized the Software
Craftsmanship Manifesto, a document that summarizes the main values of the Software Craftsmanship movement.
The Manifesto evolved over long months in which we had many discussions that helped us to distill and refine the ideas behind
this document.
A very special thanks goes to Doug Bradbury, who finally compiled the ideas into the Manifesto. Also to all the people that
helped to make this happen.
The manifesto for Software Craftsmanship reads as follows:
As aspiring Software Craftsmen we are raising the bar
of professional software development by practicing it and helping
others learn the craft. Through this work we have come to value:Not only working software,
but also well-crafted software
Not only responding to change,
but also steadily adding value
Not only individuals and interactions,
but also a community of professionals
Not only customer collaboration,
but also productive partnershipsThat is, in pursuit of the items on the left we have found the items on the right to be indispensable.
This has marked definitively a milestone for us, but there is still a long way to go.
